As skies clear from the west overnight into Sunday morning, ice is expected to form on any untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, with injuries from slips and falls possible.

The Met Office has issued its latest warning for snow and ice across Co Tyrone.

Parents should be braced for a half term washout as heavy rain and freezing temperatures look set to hit the United Kingdom next week, the Met Office has warned. Feeling bitterly cold with strong westerly winds.

"People need to be careful on the roads and make allowances for long journeys".

Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said: "The rain across Northern Ireland and Scotland into the evening will push into the colder air which will mean we will see some sleet at lower levels, snow building up over the hills over central and southern Scotland and as well as the north of England". Between 25 and 35 mm of rain is expected.

Motorists have been advised to watch out for slippery roads due to an accumulation of frost and ice overnight, as temperatures are set to drop to -2 degrees.

After a cold, bright and frosty start to the day, gales may develop along the south coast, with a minimum temperature of 0 degrees Celsius. It will spread eastwards through the evening and early night, falling as sleet and snow in many areas.

Tuesday will be cold, with good sunny spells and some scattered wintry showers for a time. Wind will be a feature later in the day.

As low pressure moves eastward into the North Sea, conditions will improve and brighten heading into Sunday, but temperatures will remain low in north-western regions.

It will continue to get warmer heading today, which will see gales of up to 40 miles per hour across northern regions.
