Britain First pair jailed for harassment

Deputy leader of the far-right organization Britain First Jayda Fransen gestures as she participates in a march in central London

On Friday 5 May 2017, Golding filmed Fransen attempting to enter a fast food restaurant in Northwood Road and shouting abuse at the people inside, which included a man, a woman and two teenage girls.

Fransen was convicted of three counts of religiously aggravated harassment.

The court descended into chaos as he attempted to continue, but Fransen, dressed in a black suit, spoke over him and said: "This is a very sad day for British justice".

"I think a lot of the people in your country like what I stand for-they respect what I stand for", Trump told Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan during an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January.

He told the court that Fransen and Golding were "well-known", "controversial" and "generate their own publicity", but his verdict was based "solely on admissible evidence heard in court". Her supporters shouted "no surrender" as they left the court.

Kent Police's rules stipulate that mugshots are normally released for convicts jailed for a year or more, but a spokesperson said Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen were an exception.

She denied being racist or acting aggressively.

Britain First leaders guilty of religious hate crimes

In another shared video, Fransen was seen visiting the house of trial defendant Tahani Rahmani, and shouting through the front door: 'Come out and face me you disgusting rapist, come on'.

During the trial Fransen had denied being a racist but admitted she had carried out campaigns against citizens accused of sex offences.

Amid widespread pressure, Trump offered a half-hearted apology to British television host Piers Morgan, saying he "would certainly apologize if you'd like me to do that". She said her three-year-old son was still scared when someone came to the door and would follow her around the house.

Independent unionist Belfast councillor Jolene Bunting was in attendance at the trial of the Britain First leaders.

The court heard how Golding, 36, and Fransen, 31, confronted people they believed were defendants in the case.

The leaders of the the far-right group Britain First have been convicted of a series of hate crimes against Muslims. Leaflets about the case had also been distributed to members of the public. But was cleared of uploading a video of this incident.

Judge Justin Barron said their words and actions "demonstrated hostility" towards Muslims and Islam, and prosecutors warned that Fransen and Golding could have caused the case to collapse.
