Interview Magazine Shutting Down, Heads for Liquidation

Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine Is No More

Interview magazine, the publication created by famous artist Andy Warhol in 1969, has shuttered. Still, in recent years, as magazine publishing in print has lost commercial viability, Interview focused more on fashion and became a showcase for photographers, art directors and stylists.

Interview has been embroiled in tabloid drama over the past few weeks, ever since former editorial director Fabien Baron sued the magazine for $600,000.

Purchased by billionaire art collector and publisher Peter Brant in 1989, the magazine had languished over the better part of the last decade, undergoing a series of redesigns, relaunches, and changes both at the top of the masthead and among its executive ranks.

Interview had gone through several overhauls since its birth, with the most drastic shift happening after Warhol's death in 1987. It's also understood that Karl Templer in April left his position as Interview's creative director because he was owed at least $280,000.

Interview, the celebrity interview magazine co-founded in 1969 by gay pop-artist Andy Warhol, officially shut down today after facing two unresolved lawsuits from former executives who claimed the magazine stiffed them for enormous sums. He has denied the allegations and reportedly resigned over money that Interview owed him.

Former associate publisher Jane Katz, who says she was sacked without cause, also charges the publication owes her $230,000 in unpaid wages, while former Interview President Dan Ragone alleges he is owed $170,000.

Interview Editor Ezra Marcus told CNNMoney that staffers were informed that the magazine is filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in a meeting on Monday.

One of the magazine's other hallmarks was Q & Andy, a list of 15 questions devised by Warhol which celeb contributors often filled out. In 2016, President Dan Ragone sued the magazine for unpaid wages of $170,000, and former employee Deborah Blasucci said she was sacked from her role as a senior executive for "making too much money".

The magazine offices were closed today Phone calls placed to a number listed on Interview's website went unanswered; the line appeared to have been disconnected.

After Sischy's exit, Interview took a more mainstream turn that included Kardashian covers (including the infamous Kylie-in-a-wheelchair shoot).
