Governor Brown declares state of emergency for Orange, Riverside Counties

They are fighting California's biggest fire — in steep forest terrain with rattlesnakes scorpions and poisonous plants

This comes after he allegedly sent a text to a firefighter two weeks ago saying it was all going to burn. Some of the orders were lifted on Saturday morning, including for Horsethief, McVicker and Rice canyons.

The Holy Fire - named for Holy Jim Canyon where it began is one of almost 20 blazes across California.

Riverside County: Areas 22 (Corona/Norco), 23 (Metropolitan Riverside), 24 (Perris Valley), 25 (Lake Elsinore), 26 (Temecula Valley), 28 (Hemet/San Jacinto Valley), and 29 (Banning Pass).

Forrest Clark, 51, was arrested and charged with arson in relation to one of the wildfires burning in California.

The man accused of deliberately starting the fire appeared in court on Friday, but his arraignment was postponed. Some communities in Riverside County are under mandatory evacuation orders affecting about 7,500 residential structures, according to authorities.

Clark is being held on $1 million bond.

At least 20,000 residents have had to evacuate their homes because of the blaze, which is just 5 percent contained. "This should be called the Holy Hell Fire".

Although it's not the largest fire burning in the state, there are growing concerns about how it could affect residential communities - including Lake Elsinore.

After nearly a month of wildfires, the National Weather Service warned that satellite images showed "widespread smoke" drifting from the fires into western and central Canada before heading back south in the US Northern Plains.

Smoky air from blowing winds is nothing new in California, but air quality experts say it's rare for the dirty air to linger for so long, a reality of ever-larger fires that take longer to extinguish. But Cal Fire said the flames are out of control to the north, roaring into remote and unpopulated areas of thick forests and deep ravines as firefighters contend with record-setting temperatures.

The volunteer fire chief also noted that all of the residents in the 14 cabins in Holy Jim Canyon were afraid of Clark.

"Firefighters continue to battle the blaze around the clock", the national forest tweet said.

"For those wondering about containment, the hand/containment line grows as the fire grows".

If Clark is guilty, a Washington Post interview with Milligan suggests that police could have prevented the arson.

Shane Sherwood with the Orange County Fire Authority said the evidence gathered led them to believe the fire was an intentional act, but are still working through the evidence to determine how it was started.

Along with Pritchett's home, the Holy Fire burned 12 cabins at its origin in the community of Holy Jim on Monday. Dry conditions and an increase in dead trees are fueling the fires, which have left more than 800,000 acres of scorched Earth in their path and several people, including firefighters, dead.
