As Senate weighs Kavanaugh, Thomas example offers cautions

Donald Trump Jr

As President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh appears to be losing the support of the many women who previously signed a letter attesting to his integrity, Kavanaugh's alleged sexual assault victim, Christine Blasey Ford, has receive a signed letter of endorsement herself.

The note has boxes to check for "yes" or "no" and seems to compare Mr Kavanaugh's accuser to a school yard crush. Dianne Feinstein via a letter through Eshoo's office.

Kavanaugh's nomination had already faced resistance from Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee and scores of protesters who have expressed concerns over his record on issues such as abortion and gun control. Flake went as far as to say he was "not comfortable" voting for Kavanaugh for the time being. Kavanaugh said on Monday that he is willing to refute Ford's "false allegation" before the Senate Judiciary Committee if necessary.

One of them, Sen. However, at least at this point, we should be keeping an open mind not just to all the possibilities which would confirm her story, but also of those which might do the same for his version. She said Kavanaugh groped her, tried to take off her clothes and placed his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream.

But Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer of NY said it would be "a deep insult to the women of America" if Grassley did not postpone Thursday's meeting. According to Washington Post reporter Seung Min Kim, Foy said Sunday that the vote had not been rescheduled.

If Republicans pause Kavanaugh's nomination now, then decide to go forward with it after the election, they'd be operating as lame ducks, voted out of the majority by the American people. The he in question is federal appeals judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump's pick to fill a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court.

The decision to have Thomas and Hill testify publicly before the Senate Judiciary Committee, as Kavanaugh and his accuser have offered to do, had far-reaching implications for America's efforts to grapple with sexual harassment. "She should testify under oath and she should do it on Capitol Hill".

Ford did not tell anyone of the incident until 2012, when she discussed it with her therapist. At the top, the meme reads: "Judge Kavanaughs sexual assault letter found by Dems ..."

It's a fearless woman who evidently decided that no matter how she might be affected for years to come by her decision to go public- to then go on and decide that what happens to her country is more important than what happens to her. Both Collins and Murkowski are considered potential swing votes on Kavanaugh's nomination. Sens. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of SC, both members of the Judiciary Committee, said they wanted to hear what Ford has to say before making a decision on confirming Kavanaugh. "Judge Kavanaugh and the White House both stand by that statement".

In a letter to Grassley, the Democrats urged the Iowa Republican to postpone the committee vote.

How Flake's involved: Flake, a Republican, was the first GOP senator to call for a pause on the Kavanaugh hearings until the committee hears from his accuser.

Republicans fiercely criticized Feinstein for not coming forward with the allegation sooner and charged Democrats with arranging for Ford to level her charges at a time for maximum impact. Kavanaugh has flatly denied the allegation.

"I think the allegations of Professor Ford are extremely credible", Schumer told the hosts of the show. However, there are several major problems with her story which I fear the media, having created unfair new rules for evaluating these types of claims in the #MeToo era, are going to disregard.

Leahy said in a statement that the "integrity of our nation's highest court is on the line" and "we can not brush aside these extraordinarily serious allegations in an unseemly rush to confirm Judge Kavanaugh to a lifetime seat".
