Trump mispronounces 'anonymous' during New York Times spray

A High-Level

"That somebody is allowed to do that is very sad commentary", Trump said onboard Air Force One.

President Donald Trump says Attorney General Jeff Sessions should investigate the identity of the author of an anonymous New York Times opinion piece.

Zaid argued that if the author really intends to curb Trump, there was "greater value" in maintaining their position. Another said the "Deep State and the Left, and their vehicle, the Fake News Media, are going insane - & they don't know what to do", pointing to the growing USA economy as an achievement. "And we are trying to do what's right even when Donald Trump won't".

Produced by Howard Goldenthal, Willow Smith and John Chipman.

Trump again suggested the op-ed and the Times could amount to treason during Thursday's campaign rally for Republican Senate hopeful Matt Rosendale, calling it "unfair" and speculating it could have been written by someone in the "deep state".

"The events of just the last couple of days is likely to erode whatever trust there has been on the White House staff and particularly with the president and his sense of faith that those around him are not leaking negative stories about him", said USA Today Washington Bureau Chief Susan Page.

The president said if that person had high-level security clearance, "I don't want him in those meetings".

It's safe to assume that if that op-ed came with a name on, that person would have been fired by dinnertime Wednesday.

The Justice Department will not confirm or deny whether an investigation has been launched. On the other hand, if you think that Donald Trump is a danger to the country, I suppose you think this and other people who are resisting some of Donald Trump's actions is a patriot. Trump is arguing it is essential to US national security to find out who the author is.

Haley goes on to call the anonymous official's decision to publish the piece "dangerous", and responsible for "many problems" within the administration including spreading distrust among staffers.

Mr Trump has reportedly demanded that aides find out who wrote the piece.

"No, Dir. Mulvaney is not the author", a spokesperson for Mulvaney told NBC News. It's addressed to the South Korean president and trade minister, and informs them that the US "wishes to terminate" the current trade agreement between the two countries.

And Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, a key ally of Trump's, called for the president to order those suspected of being the author to undergo lie-detector tests.

A June 1974 Associated Press report quoted Nixon as saying, "I don't know much about these things, but it scares the (expletive deleted) out of them".
