Israeli fire wounds 11 Palestinians at Gaza protest

Israeli ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon speaks during a brief press conference before a Security Council meeting at UN Headquarters

A third Israeli sustained serious injuries in the attack.

Magen David Adom emergency medical services said their medics had entered a building at Barkan where they found a man and woman without pulse, and pronounced them dead.

Army spokesman Jonathan Conricus said the 23-year-old Palestinian had worked in the Barkan industrial zone, where the attack took place in the occupied West Bank.

Hamas wrested control of Gaza and ousted the PA after clashes in 2007, drawing an Israeli-Egyptian blockade that has resulted in severe fuel shortages and worsening humanitarian conditions. An investigation has been launched to determine how Na'alowa managed to smuggle a shotgun into the industrial zone, where thousands of Israelis and Palestinians are employed.

Hamas, the movement that runs the Gaza Strip, welcomed the attack and called it a "natural response to the crimes of the Israeli occupation".

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday reportedly told his cabinet that a military operation in Gaza would be imminent should violent tensions worsen.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group issued a similar statement.

More than 260 Palestinians have also been killed over the same period.

Every Friday, Palestinians across the West Bank stage rallies to protest Israel's longstanding policy of building Jewish settlements on confiscated Palestinian land.

Some Israeli media reported the Palestinian suspect had been recently fired from his job at the site, raising speculation the attack may have been motivated by a personal vendetta.

According to Israeli sources, a gunman managed to enter a factory and opened fire, causing the injury of three settlers, two of whom were later killed.

Bennett was then asked if he would also instruct the Israeli army to adopt a shoot to kill policy against Palestinian children, to which he replied: "They are not children - they are terrorists". The settlements are considered illegal under worldwide law, though Israel disputes this.

In the central West Bank district of Jerusalem al-Quds, one Palestinian was detained and identified as former prisoner Mahmoud Abed al-Latif.
