Melania Trump leaves Kenya for Egypt

United States First Lady Melania Trump is expected in Kenya on Friday as part of her first solo international trip as FLOTUS

Trump left the country after five-hours visit and headed to Kenya and she will also visit Egypt having visited Ghana.

Ms Trump's visit to Africa is seen by some observers as an effort to mend fences after her husband's reported comment that the continent contained "shithole" countries. With a smile on her face, the first lady read along with children during their lessons.

Earlier Friday, Mrs. Trump sashayed to the beat of African music while being welcomed to an orphanage.

Melania Trump was met with protestors bearing signs aimed pointedly at her husband, President Donald Trump, as she arrived in Malawi as part of her tour of Africa.

The criticism was not universal. Here the two were seen feeding the orphaned baby elephants. "It is a attractive thing to see", Trump tweeted. She also read them a book.

Despite the backlash she has received online, Melania has taken to Twitter with a series of videos and messages to update her followers of her time in Africa. "It's exhausted and it's old and it's inaccurate".

"Meeting those children and understanding their different way of life is why I wanted to travel here", she said after the school visit, speaking to US embassy workers.

President Trump has praised his wife's work on social media, saying she is "doing really well in Africa". She visited mothers and their newborns in Ghana and a primary school in Malawi. She administered them formula in oversized baby bottles, patted the animals on their heads and inspected their floppy ears. She emerged without a smudge.

The Trump administration recently chose to again allow Americans to import the body parts of African elephants shot for sport.

Ms Trump then took to the Nairobi National Park and will later visit an orphanage and watch a play. "Her attire is a signal of her understanding of what Africa is in 2018".

In other ways, Trump has seemed independent. She'll also go on a quick safari. She bent down and scooped up some of the burned ivory, rubbing it lightly in her hands and spent several minutes asking the warden questions.

Trump at first decried lifting the ban, but he did not intervene in a federal agency decision to begin judging the importation of elephant trophies on a "case-by-case basis".
