Rihanna Turned Down Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show to Support Kaepernick

Rihanna

Rihanna stands with Kap.

However, a second source involved in the conversations says that the NFL approached both Rihanna and Pink - who was tasked with singing the National Anthem ahead of Super Bowl LII back in February - to perform at halftime early on, but because the negotiations took so long, both women chose to move on. Per a report from US Weekly, Rihanna was actually the NFL's first choice, but she declined to offer "because she supports Colin Kaepernick".

Rihanna reportedly does not agree with the NFL's policy.

Kaepernick has remained a free agent since the end of the 2016 season.

He has filed a grievance against the National Football League team owner he claims conspired not to hire him because of his protests and has become the face of a new Nike advertising campaign. The rapper later seemed to confirm this report in a song that dropped over the summer: "I said no to the Super Bowl: you need me, I don't need you. Just when she walks into a room people feel her presence". The reason for Rihanna is her style, her swag and the aura about her. JAY-Z also reportedly turned down an offer to headline this year's halftime show in Minnesota in support of Kaepernick.

While it appears Rihanna won't be involved, Cardi B may be a special guest during the show at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium in early February.
