Storm Callum: UK braced for heavy rain and 70mph winds

Dublin Airport issued a statement on Twitter to say that Storm Callum "is not having a significant impact on operations" and that the airport is "operating as normal this morning".

AA Roadwatch have reported that all Irish Rail services are operating though commuters may be faced with delays due to the effects of the storm - such as low rail adhesion.

The Met Office warning states: "Following Storm Callum, heavy rain will continue to affect southwest England, parts of Wales and northwest England along with southern Scotland for much of Saturday".

A yellow weather warning is in place tomorrow across large parts of north west and west Wales, with further heavy and persistent rainfall forecast.

The AA is advising motorists to reduce their speed accordingly to improve their ability to maintain control of their vehicle when driving through areas affected by Storm Callum.

Flood warnings were put in place in Scotland and around 2,000 homes and businesses in England were left without power as some flood defences were breached.

But better weather is on its way this week bringing relief to parts of the United Kingdom dealing with Callum's aftermath.

There were also a number of road closures due to fallen trees and debris. "Some roads and bridges may close".

The high winds, combined with heavy rain, could see leaves and twigs blocking drains, making flooding more likely, Mr Burkhill said.

While Windsor, the scene of Friday's royal wedding, looks set to escape the worst of the storm, those charged with carrying any train on Princess Eugenie's dress may have a challenge on their hands, Ms Kent added.

He said: "I have been very saddened to hear of the loss of life during the severe weather caused by Storm Callum".

Some drier spells are also likely, particular in the east of the region later on today.

"Once again members of our police, fire and rescue and voluntary services have done an excellent job to try to keep people safe and communities connected during some of the worst weather conditions we have seen in decades".
