'Crime Against Humanity' and 'International Embarrassment': Trump Refuses to 'Believe' Climate Report

US tries to bury report on climate change’s dire health economic impacts

Trump on Tuesday (NZT) rejected a central conclusion of the dire report on the economic costs of climate change released by his own administration. Outside of Christmas and the actual day of Thanksgiving, there's no better day to drop bad news that you don't want people to see.

The analysis, compiled by government scientists and quietly issued Friday, warns that the US could shoulder hundreds of billions of dollars in costs from unchecked climate change, as floodwaters swamp coastal communities and droughts devastate crops.

For Trump, fervently denying the existence of climate change is nothing new.

It concluded that climate change was man-made, and would have devastating effects on the world's economy unless addressed soon.

The report, the Third National Climate Assessment, also warned of increases in harmful algae blooms off Florida's coast, worsening seasonal allergies for people already made miserable by springtime pollen and heavier rainstorms and flooding in low-lying areas. Eight-in-10 Democrats, 54% of independents, and 22% of Republicans thought in August that climate change has an impact the fires.

Mr Trump said outside the White House on Monday that he had seen the report and "read some of it".

"How many wake-up calls do we need?" It details how global warming from the burning of coal, oil and gas is hurting each region of the US and how it impacts different sectors of the economy, including energy and agriculture.

An earlier portion of the climate change report was released in November 2017 and found "no convincing alternative explanation" for the changing climate other than "human activities, especially emissions of greenhouse gases".

"What the US needs to do is participate in a long-term conversation about how you get to innovation, and it's going to need to be a conversation again that doesn't start with alarmism", Sasse said. The findings are a sharp rebuke to the Trump administration's insistence that environmental regulations hurt jobs and hinder economic growth.

"So, to say that because it's cold this week [that's] a refutation of climate change, it's just flawed".

"If we're clean, but every other place on earth is dirty, that's not so good", he said.

Trump has stood by his years-old claim that climate change is a hoax and emphasized that belief with his statements about the California wildfires, which he said were a result of poor forest management, drawing criticism from firefighters, climate scientists and many others. "So I want clean air, I want clean water, very important".

But economists said the National Climate Assessment's warning of hundreds of billions of dollars a year in global warming costs is pretty much on the money.

'This report makes it clear that climate change is not some problem in the distant future.

Blake Hurst, president of the Missouri Farm Bureau, said Monday the report was "pretty disturbing" but agreed that agricultural producers will have to meet the challenge.

Under President Trump, the United States pulled out of the Paris-Climate agreement, which put America on track to reducing greenhouse gasses by 26% while handing over billions of dollars to the United Nations.
