White House Bans CNN Reporter Following Confrontation

White House suspends CNN's Jim Acosta

A White House staff member steps in to try to take the microphone away from CNN's Jim Acosta as he questions U.S. President Donald Trump during a news conference following Tuesday's midterm U.S. congressional elections at the White House in Washington, U.S., November 7, 2018.

Acosta calls the White House claim a "lie", and video of the incident on Wednesday shows that he only touched the intern on her arm as she tried to grab the microphone from him.

An independent video production trainer tells the AP a video tweeted by the White House on an interaction between CNN reporter Jim Acosta and an intern appears to have been manipulated to make the reporter's actions look more aggressive.

Asked how long Mr. Acosta will be barred from the White House, Mr. Trump replied, "I haven't made that decision, but it could be others, also".

Mr Trump appeared ready to walk out as Acosta clung to the microphone and persisted with questions about the president's views on a caravan of Central American migrants making its way to the United States border.

Instead of answering the question, Trump said, "What a stupid question you asked".

"I mean, you talk about somebody that's a loser", Trump said about Ryan. You have to treat the White House with respect.

"You have to treat the White House of the office of the presidency with respect".

Earlier in the week, Trump asked CNN contributor April Ryan to "sit down" when she was at the briefing.

But revoking the credentials a journalist needs to do his or her job of holding the government to account is dangerously close to a violation of the U.S. Constitution, said journalism scholar Frank LoMonte. Of course, the media did not ask tough questions to President Obama and gave him the type of respect that President Trump never receives.

Press advocates anxious, though, that Trump might bar these reporters from the White House if they continued to hit him with tough questions.

"I do think, Anderson, that this is a test for all of us", he said.

"Though there's hardly anyone, from his predecessors to senators in his own party, he won't try to shout down with ad hominem insults, Trump relishes, and injects venom into, verbal attacks against women of color", she wrote. The he administration later revoked his access to the White House, falsely claiming that Acosta had handled the aid roughly. Media organizations criticized Sanders and called for Acosta's pass to be reinstated. "You shouldn't be working for CNN", Trump said.

The journalists who were the target of Trump's ire defended each other on Friday.

Kimmel even had a suggestion for what Sanders's fate should be after getting fired, saying, "Sarah Huckabee Sanders should be fired and be sent to live in a Jo-Ann's fabric store for the rest of her days".

Ryan isn't the only black female journalist Trump has derided this week. While appearing in a Mother's Day interview this year, Sanders suggested dealing with Acosta was like dealing with her children: they both whined and repeatedly asked the same questions.
