Ms Ryan said that under Mr Corbyn, Labour had developed a "cult around the leader", driven by an " all-consuming narrative founded on rage, betrayal and the hunt for heretics".

They added: "The final straw for us has been this Government's disastrous handling of Brexit".

The tweet, now deleted, stated: "Jewish people with any sense of humanity need to start speaking out publicly against the ruthless murdering being carried out by Israel", Sky News reported.

Mr Watson told the caller, who said he had quit Labour when Mr Corbyn took over: "You may not like Jeremy as leader, but if you genuinely believe in a fairer society and you want to fight racism, come back into the party and fight with me".

Responding to the news, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough James Palmer said: "It's regrettable that Heidi Allen has felt it necessary to resign from the Conservative Party and join the new Independent Group of MPs".

The Prime Minister hit back at Jeremy Corbyn after the Labour leader urged her to "stop playing games" with people's livelihoods and make it clear that the United Kingdom will not leave the European Union without an agreement.

"I'm not leaving the Conservative Party; it's left us", Soubry said at a press conference flanked by her colleagues following the announcement of their decision, arguing its "anti-EU wing" was now setting the agenda.

The already fractious landscape in British politics grew even more contentious on Monday when seven lawmakers staged what is being billed as a "dramatic" walkout from Britain's opposition Labour Party.

In September, Ryan lost a no confidence vote brought against her by her local parliamentary constituency over her smearing of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, but said she would not step down.

"Let's change it", said Chuka Umunna, one of the lawmakers. However, several lawmakers have reportedly urged the party to do more.

The YouGov voter intention poll asked the public how they would vote if the Independent Group became a political party and put up candidates at the general election. It is the first split of its kind since the SDP broke away from Labour in 1981.

The new Independent Group member MPs.

The new Independent Group is now the joint fourth-biggest bloc in the Commons with 11 MPs - the same as the centrist Liberal Democrats, with predictions of further defections to come.

Today, three MPS - including Totnes' Sarah Wollaston - quit the Conservative party to join them.

"When is she going to put the interests of the people of this country before the interests of the Conservative Party?"

Earlier the same day, Theresa May told her cabinet ministers that the "Malthouse compromise" cannot replace the backstop, which could hurt her chances of winning that vital support from Eurosceptics in her party. The Conservative Party is a broad church and its right and proper that if the Conservative Party wants to remain the party of government, this remains the case.

She said: "I have been a member of the Labour party for a long time, I believe in Labour values and I believe Labour is the best way to deliver positive change for people in Aberdeen and more broadly".
