Do not forget to spring ahead when daylight saving time kicks in Sunday

Daylight Saving Time adjustments could lead to health risks, studies say

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday morning and we all lose an hour of sleep in exchange for the longer daylight hours of spring.

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 10, specifically at 2:00am.

We are also expecting a warm up this weekend. You'll have to turn your clocks AHEAD one hour if you don't want to be an hour late for church on Sunday morning.

Well folks, it's that time of year again. But back in 1916, Germany first implemented Daylight Saving Time during World War I when coal was in short supply.

The U.S. Department of Transportation also claims that there is less crime during daylight saving time.

A 2014 Rasmussen poll found that a declining percentage of adults in the United States - 33% - think daylight saving time is "worth the hassle".

However, whether or not the expected energy savings from Daylight Saving Time actually exist is a topic fraught with contradictory findings.

It doesn't feel much like spring, but it's time to "spring ahead" to "Daylight Saving Time".

DST was instituted during WWI but abandoned soon after only to be revived in 1942 by President Franklin Roosevelt, again in an effort to conserve resources during a world war. Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands all decline for the same reason as Hawaii: The closer you are to the equator, the less seasons impact the length of your day.

It's always Daylight Saving Time. DST also causes more reports of injuries at work, more strokes, and may lead to a temporary bump in suicides. To save yourself any unnecessary stress and confusion on Sunday, before you go to bed Saturday night, set all your clocks ahead one hour-including the one in your auto if it doesn't change itself.

It's possible more states will join Hawaii and Arizona in opting out of the Uniform Time Act.

Bills to eliminate Daylight Saving Time have been introduced this year in Texas, Maine, New Mexico, Idaho, Wyoming, and Arkansas. But the shift to a permanent daylight-saving time plan isn't something states can decide for themselves: the measures require a green light from Congress in order to take effect, something both California and Florida have yet to receive.
