Gaza rocket hits Israeli home injuring 7, Netanyahu cuts short Washington trip

Police officers inspect the damage to a house hit by a rocket in Mishmeret central Israel Monday

Seven Israelis were injured after a rocket fired Monday from the Gaza Strip scored a direct hit on a house just outside of Tel Aviv, prompting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cut short a visit to Washington.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu will return from the U.S. after meeting with President Donald Trump and has cancelled his speech at the 2019 AIPAC conference tomorrow.

"Israel will not tolerate this, I will not tolerate this", Netanyahu said.

An Israeli rescue service said the rocket from the Gaza Strip struck a house in central Israel, wounding seven people.

As a result the PM has shortened his visit to the United States and return after his meeting with President Donald Trump.

The border along Israel and Gaza recently marked one year of continued border protests.

A heavy salvo of rockets was reportedly fired at communities in the Gaza border region. An Israel-Egyptian blockade, combined with sanctions by the rival Palestinian Authority and mismanagement by the Hamas government have fuelled an economic crisis. A 12-year old girl and two infants also received shrapnel wounds, and two dogs were killed. Please keep all of Israel in your prayers...

Monday's attack came 10 days after rockets were fired from Gaza toward Israel's densely populated commercial capital of Tel Aviv.

The reports were a sign that Israel was seeking to calm tensions. He said he had been briefed by the heads of Israeli security and that he would return to conduct Israel's response.

The Israeli army also declared several areas in southern Israel closed military zones.

Before the firing began, an Egyptian delegation cancelled its planned entry into the Gaza Strip as militants warned that an Israeli offensive will be met with a harsh response. I will return to Israel immediately afterward'.

The house was destroyed in the wake of the rocket and subsequent fire, with burnt wood, a children's toy and other debris piled at the site.

At least 258 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza since weekly border protests began almost a year ago. Bomb shelters in Tel Aviv, Rishon Lizion, Beer Sheva and other cities have been opened. He called it a "criminal attack", and Vice-President Mike Pence said the strike was evidence that Hamas militants can not be a partner to achieve a Mideast peace.

The move, which formalises a commitment Mr Trump made last week, appeared to give Mr Netanyahu a boost ahead of the closely contested April 9 Israeli elections.

The military blamed the strike on Hamas and said it was sending reinforcements to the Gaza border.

The airstrike took place moments after Israel fired a pair of warning shots at the office, a tactic that Israel uses to get people to evacuate targeted buildings.

Palestinians burn defaced photos of the Israeli and United States presidents during a protest in Gaza City, 25 March 2019.

Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Sunday for what was to have been a three-day visit.
