15 killed in raid on radical hideout: Sri Lanka police

The additional violence comes after a group of attackers targeted six hotels and churches and killed roughly 250 people, many of whom were Christians celebrating Easter.

The operation followed a tip off that extremists linked to the Easter suicide bombings were holed up in Kalmunai, 370 kilometres (230 miles) east of the capital.

"President Maithripala Sirisena took this decision to further support the ongoing security and help the armed forces to easily identify the identity of any wanted perpetrators", the release added.

He said although the attacks were carried out in the island nation, they might have been remotely controlled at another country.

Zahran Hashim, believed to have masterminded the Easter attacks in Sri Lanka, spent "substantial" time in "south India", a top Sri Lankan military source said, reported Indian newspaper The Hindu.

It listed the names of the suicide bombers, who were also shown in a video swearing allegiance to the terror group.

"All movable and immovable property of these two organizations will be confiscated", the statement said. A Daesh flag and uniforms were also found, police said.

"There could be another wave of attacks", the head of ministerial security division (MSD), a unit of the police, said in a letter to lawmakers and other officials, seen by Reuters on Monday. Ranjith, who is the archbishop of Colombo, asked the faithful across Sri Lanka to stay home for their own safety. The role of an "international hand" could not be ruled out, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

Eight explosions rattled various churches and high-end hotels located across Sri Lankan cities of Colombo, Negombo, Kochchikede and Batticaloa as the Christian community celebrated Easter on April 21. According to them, since the Easter Sunday attacks, a number of public disturbances have been reported in the country due to fake information. The military on Sunday sought to assure them. As the clashes intensified, three men are believed to have set off explosives. Authorities warned the hunt would continue.

A week after Islamic militants carried out deadly blasts that killed more than 250 people, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Sunday announced a ban on covering of the face that would make identification hard.

"We have found the backdrop the group used to record their video", the police said in an earlier statement on Friday night.

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said the island - which depends on tourism as a cornerstone of its economy - could take up to two years to fully recover.

A Sri Lankan MP, Professor Ashu Marasinghe, called for the burqa to be banned across the country to prevent male and female terrorists using it to cover up their identity.
