MPs may force Theresa May to ask for longer Brexit delay

Theresa May Michel Barnier the EU's chief negotiator and Jean Claude Juncker in Brussels last February

He said: "We will meet the Prime Minister".

THE PRIME Minister has announced that she will seek a further extension of Article 50, delaying Brexit once again.

It would be down to the European Union to agree to an extension, and the bloc has already made clear it would only sanction more time if there was a shift in the UK's negotiating position.

"This debate, this division, can not drag on much longer. It is doing damage to our politics".

Theresa May has offered Jeremy Corbyn a "national unity" approach to breaking the Brexit deadlock, inviting Jeremy Corbyn into talks to decide the shape of the UK's future relationship with the EU.

"Any plan would have to agree the current Withdrawal Agreement".

She said: "Today I'm taking action to break the logjam".

Michel Barnier said a long extension to the UK's 12 April exit date had "significant risks for the EU" and a "strong justification would be needed".

"It has already been negotiated with the 27 other members and the European Union has repeatedly said that it can not and will not be reopened".

"Crucially, the Government stands ready to abide by the decision of the House".

"In the end, I trust the British people to be able to deliver their verdict on Theresa May's deal".

"However people voted in the referendum in 2016, whether they voted remain or they voted leave, they didn't vote for lower living standards, they didn't vote to lose their jobs".

The move is backed by Tory Remainer Sir Oliver Letwin, the architect of the backbench takeover of the House of Commons Brexit business which so far has resulted in not a single soft-Brexit option being supported despite the lower house of Parliament being massively overrepresented by Europhiles.

EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier says that Britain's exit from the European Union without a deal "becomes day after day more likely" after the United Kingdom parliament again rejected alternatives to the government's unpopular divorce deal.

MPs rejected a call for a customs union with the EU by just three votes on Monday, while a demand for a second referendum was defeated by 12 and a "Common Market 2.0" deal by 21.

Though there has been no official response from the European Council, a tweet from its president, Donald Tusk, suggested that they would be receptive to an extension.

SDLP leader Colum Eastwood said he was glad the Prime Minister has "decided to ditch the ERG and DUP" version of Brexit.

"The bottom line is still clear - the Good Friday Agreement and frictionless border needs to be protected".
