Trump notes 'tremendous potential' of US-Russia ties

US President Donald Trump chats with Russia's President Vladimir Putin as they attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting part of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' summit in the central Vietnamese city of Danang on N

"Beijing possibly is more interested in a nuclear deal than trade", Trump said.

When asked in the White House on Friday whether he had warned Mr Putin that Moscow should not interfere in the next U.S. presidential election, Mr Trump told the reporter she was "very rude". Mueller did not charge the Trump campaign with a criminal conspiracy but the report did outline over 100 pages of collusion evidence.

Mr Mueller concluded his inquiry could not exonerate Mr Trump of obstruction of justice, noting Department of Justice guidance that a sitting president cannot be criminally charged.

Democrats like Rouda have pushed for Congress to further investigate the issue.

"And so for you to suggest that somehow we haven't taken election interference seriously, we do", he said. The Trump administration has accused the Russians of preventing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from giving up power and fleeing the country.

"The president has been very clear on this".

Trump's comments raised eyebrows because they came hours after national security adviser John Bolton used Twitter to blame Russian Federation and Cuba for keeping dictator Nicolas Maduro in power and days after Pompeo pointed a finger at Russian Federation for backing Maduro. According to the press spokeswoman for Sanders, the two presidents have reaffirmed their commitment, as well as the need for the denuclearization of North Korea.

Putin has in fact dispatched Russian troops to support Nicolás Maduro amid an anti-government uprising led by opposition leader Juan Guaidó.

"Chris, this administration has been tougher on Russian Federation than any of it's predecessor administrations", said Pompeo, affecting some indignation. In March, Bolton warned nations "external to the Western hemisphere" to stay out of Venezuela after Russian Federation landed at least two planeloads of troops in Caracas.

"They will have an opportunity, obviously, to meet and review whatever topics they choose to", a senior State Department official told reporters on a conference call previewing Pompeo's trip.

Robert Mueller speaks during a news conference at the Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters, 2008.

Washington is insisting Mr Maduro's days are numbered - but experts say United States options for breaking the stalemate are limited, and that Washington may have overestimated the opposition leader's strength.

Trump previously cited the fact that China was not included in the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces treaty as one of the primary reasons for calling for the U.S.to withdraw from it earlier this year, along with reports that Russian Federation has not abided by it for years. "The heads of state expressed satisfaction with the conversation, which was of a businesslike and constructive character".

Apparently, Trump and Putin were able to smooth the waters a bit. Russian state television described it as a witch hunt orchestrated by the USA political establishment to punish Trump for seeking to improve ties with Russia.
