Police arrest ‘armed and dangerous’ Florida woman accused of killing daughter, stepfather

Florida woman jailed for handing husband's guns to cops

Taylor Irby tried to leave the courthouse in her vehicle and her estranged husband followed her, allegedly ramming his vehicle into her back bumper.

"She had talked about her mother like they had a close relationship and her mother did everything for her, bought her things, and during Christmas would buy her jewelry and get her different things and helped her out, pay her bills", Angela McLendon, who worked with Alyssa at a women's health clinic told TC Palm. 'Prosecuting Ms. Irby sets a scary precedent that if someone seeks help to escape abuse, they will be punished for it'.

Assistant state attorney Jacob Orr told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday that the office is "reviewing the allegations and all of the evidence collected by law enforcement".

Orlando Weekly has reached out to Haas' office for comment.

"I can say that we are fully reviewing all the allegations and all the evidence as it comes in from law enforcement", Orr said.

"We anticipate getting a full story", he added.

Now a Florida lawmaker and gun safety advocates are championing her cause, asking a state attorney on Monday drop the charges, while gun rights advocates want her prosecuted.

Permission to enter the apartment?

The on-duty officer then made contact with Joseph Irby, who was still incarcerated at the Polk County Jail.

Joseph was released from jail later that day.

Courtney Irby was charged with stealing her ex partner, Joseph Irby's guns from his apartment, a day after he went to jail. Irby's vehicle allegedly was rear-ended by the vehicle of her husband, who was attempting to run her off the road while she was on the phone with police.

On the Port St. Lucie Police Facebook post about the killings, Angela McLendon said she worked with Torres at a women's health care center in nearby Jensen Beach, just 7 miles southeast of the Port St. Lucie apartment complex where her daughter and step-father were found dead.

According to the arrest affidavit, she told an officer she had the guns and he asked if she had committed an armed burglary.

She said yes, adding that "he wasn't going to turn them in so I am doing it".

Under the guidelines of that law, police could have seized Joseph Irby's weapons before Taylor Irby made a decision to interfere.

Speaking at his June 15 bond hearing by telephone, Irby - who goes by her middle name - told a judge in Polk County, Florida, that she believed her estranged husband, 35-year-old Joseph Irby, was risky.

She went to the Lakeland Police Department on Friday June 15 to turn over the firearms, according to WMKG-TV. Police said Torres' mother was not shot. He said the officer consulted with supervisors and the LPD detective bureau before arresting Irby.

"When a case is brought to us, we have to look at all sides of the cases and come to the fairest conclusion we can for everyone involved", he said.
